For me, today was the real beginning of the road trip. We were finally leaving the known and headed into newishness. On the way to the Skyline Drive, we stopped in Poolsville, MD for a farm party at Joe Gordon’s place via Whites Ferry.
Pretty neato stuff happening on the farm. We decided to talk to some animals.
First, we met a goat.
Hey, goat. It's good to see you. I like your beard. I had a beard like that in The Perfect Storm. Did you see that movie? Did ya, did ya see The Perfect Storm, goat? Say hi to your mother for me, okay?
Next, we met a donkey.
Hey, donkey. What's goin' on? You're a donkey, I like that. You eat apples, right? I produce Entourage. Okay, talk to you later, donkey.
Joe also had a very cool farm cat.
Hey, cat. How's it goin'? I like your fur, that looks really great. So you're a cat, right? What's that all about? Okay, well it was great to meet you. Say hi to your mother for me, okay?
We even made some horse friends. Not sure if they are any relation to Lexi’s horse friends.Good times on the farm, but it was time to move on to Shenandoah. As we got a bit closer to Skyline Drive, we stopped at an Educational Prehistoric Forest known as Dinosaur Land.
We learned a lot here and even picked up some mini Confederate flags for dashboard ornaments… when in Rome.
It was time for some Skyline Driving. The drive to the Loft Mount campsite was beautiful. We stopped for many picture ops while channeling our inner Robert Goulet. Nature! Goulet! That’s why we came up here I guess. Sean saw a Ford GT, so we had to stop. All I know is that I have never seen Sean look at Francella the same way. It was love. Along the way, we ran into a bear cub wandering on the side of the road. He walked right across the road just doing some bear things. It was about a 2 hour drive to Loft Mountain. When we arrived, we got a fire started and cooked up some hot dogs and beans. Manfuel. Good day.
The next day we woke up really early to get started on our way to Kentucky. We noted how close we were to the Appalachian Trail and looked to finish the rest of the Skyline Drive. Started the drive off playlist with Nick Lachey’s inspirational “All in my Head." Pretty much the song of the trip so far. As we pushed on, “Beautiful” by Akon ft. Colby O’Donis and Kardinal Offishall came on. We came to the realization that Sean would be Akon, I would be Colby O’Donnis and naturally Georgie would be Kardinal Offishore. Together, we will go on to meet independent women in clubs across the nation with the intention of becoming baby fathers. Just a thought. Sadly, it was time to say goodbye to Skyline Drive. We passed through West Virginia, which was wild and wonderful. Hola, Kentucky.
